During Covid-19, Home-Start has had to re-evaluate the way we deliver our service, to the families that we support. Home-Start UK has devised an online 4 session training course, delivered by our Scheme Manager, to enable us to offer Telephone Befriending. We have recruited 6 volunteers who are due to complete their training on the 18th June 2020. They will then be linked to a staff co-ordinator and “matched” with a family who needs support.
Once restrictions are lifted, we hope to offer another course to train volunteers to Home Visit families. If you are interested in finding out more, please call Steph, on 07516 273353.
We need help and volunteers from across our communities to help more families in the Warrington area. You could be the one who changes a young life forever.
To find out more about the role of a volunteer, read Vicky’s story below;
Vikki was a volunteer for Home-Start Warrington, when Vikki was pregnant with her own child and in an abusive relationship, she relied on Home-Start to help her once her son was born through some of the tougher times of being a lone parent. “Having a volunteer to help me when I felt vulnerable and lonely really got me through the first 6 months of building a new life for us, and I knew when Alfie was bigger I wanted to do the same for someone else.”
Vikki is now at University and working towards a career in Social Care “the rewards were so great in knowing I could help, I wanted to do it full time”. Volunteering for Home-Start and helping others less fortunate and in need, can inspire promising career choices in our volunteers.
