Home-Start Warrington is a unique charity which offers support to families who have at least one child under the age of five. We train volunteers who then visit families, in their own home, who are struggling for a variety of reasons. These could be due to mental health problems, isolation, drug or alcohol addiction, illness of a child or parent, home conditions or debt problems.
We aim to break the cycle of deprivation that can occur within families. There is evidence that the first five years of a child’s life are the most important and lay down the foundations for their future. Therefore it is important that family life is stable and secure to ensure children thrive into adulthood. Home-Start Warrington offers friendship, support and guidance, in a non-judgemental way, to parents who are struggling and help them break the cycle of deprivation and have aspirations for themselves and their children.
Key to achieving all of this is funding. We don’t receive any government funding and it costs £1,200 per year to support one family and we currently support over 128 families over the course of a year and £600 to train and support a volunteer and we have to raise these funds ourselves.
